Dear Beloveds, 

Last week, the Board of Directors of Soul 2 Soul Sisters announced that our organization is entering a new season of evolution through an organizational restructuring. As part of this difficult transition, we regrettably had to say goodbye to six extraordinary members of our team, whose contributions have left a lasting impact on our community. 

Before sharing additional context, we want to acknowledge the weight and the personal impact of this decision. 

We know this brings a sense of loss, grief, uncertainty, pain, and disappointment for those impacted and for our community of Black women, girls, femmes, and gender-expansive Beloveds. 

We are deeply grateful to the team members whose care, creativity, time, talent, integrity, and spirit have strengthened Soul 2 Soul Sisters and advanced the work of Black liberation, healing, health, and joy. 

Their contributions have nurtured relationships, supported our community, and helped many of you feel seen, connected, and cared for. 

This decision is not a reflection of their performance, commitment, or value.

We are holding two truths at once: the work and contributions of our impacted colleagues deserve profound gratitude, recognition, and respect, and Soul 2 Soul Sisters must make difficult decisions to ensure that the organization can continue serving our community in the years ahead.

Soul 2 Soul Sisters was built from a deep sense of purpose and an enduring love for Black women, girls, femmes, and gender-expansive Beloveds. That purpose remains unchanged, and our responsibility to our community is at the center of every decision we make, including the most difficult ones.

 

Why Soul 2 Soul Sisters Is Restructuring

The Board made the decision to restructure Soul 2 Soul Sisters following an extensive review of the organization’s financial position, operating expenses, and available and reliably committed funding. 

Throughout this process, the Board carefully evaluated a range of potential strategies to stabilize the organization while preserving its mission and long-term viability. 

After a thorough review of the organization’s position and in alignment with its fiduciary responsibility, the Board reached the difficult conclusion that a comprehensive organizational restructuring was the most responsible path to address the organization’s financial realities and position Soul 2 Soul Sisters for long-term sustainability. 

The decision to restructure was made only after careful deliberation and with deep consideration of its impact on our staff, our community, and the future of our mission. While this decision was incredibly difficult, we believe it was necessary to stabilize the organization, preserve our ability to serve the community, and ensure Soul 2 Soul Sisters can continue its mission for years to come.

 

What’s Next

In August, we will begin developing a new strategic plan that will guide the next chapter of Soul 2 Soul Sisters. Together, we will thoughtfully evaluate our programming, services, organizational structure, and operating model to ensure our work remains responsive to community needs while building a financially sustainable future. 

We know the communities we serve continue to face sustained attacks and real harm. We have not lost sight of those who turn to Soul 2 Soul Sisters for action, advocacy, care, connection, education, and spiritual support. 

This is an extremely difficult time for nonprofit organizations, which are facing increased demand for services, severe funding cuts, and aggressive attacks, particularly on organizations that are committed to inclusive programming. 

To the impacted team members: we offer our unending gratitude for your leadership, service, and care. We wish you abundance, power, clarity, and deep support in the next chapter of your careers.

To our funders, community partners, and all Black women, girls, femmes, and gender-expansive Beloveds: thank you for your unwavering care, partnership, and belief in Soul 2 Soul Sisters. We look forward to continuing this work with you and to all that we will build together.
