Economic Justice

We are all we got! Fight for Economic Justice NOW!

Economic Justice at Soul 2 Soul Sisters

At Soul 2 Soul Sisters, we know there is no racial and reproductive justice without economic justice. Black Beloveds’ healing and liberation are not possible unless our material needs are met. As such, our Racial and Economic Justice program provides both Mutual Aid and Financial Literacy programming for Black Beloveds, their families and the organizations that serve them.

Soul 2 Soul Sisters offers immediate, life-saving mutual aid to Black Beloveds, their families, and the organizations that serve them, which are navigating economic hardship. This includes direct cash payment and essential supplies such as diapers, baby wipes, medical gloves, etc. We provide a comprehensive list of resources, including housing resources, transportation services, childcare options, food access, mental health support, health resources, and social wellbeing services.

The problem is not Black Beloveds — it’s the racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic, transphobic, and capitalist systems that create and maintain disparities. That is why we approach economic justice comprehensively:

  • We advocate for systemic change in support of wealth-building and reparations for Black Beloveds
  • We support one another as a community, offering care without restrictive requirements or judgements, because we are all we got.
  •  We equip Black Beloveds and their families with educational resources to navigate financial challenges, build wealth, and secure long-term stability through set SMART financial goals, explore savings techniques and establish wealth building accounts

Love is the Antidote. Mutual Aid is the Method.

Mutual aid is a long-standing tradition in Black communities, a radical, collective refusal to let one another go without. Rooted in shared care and survival, mutual aid is for community, by community. It is a tangible expression of our deepest values: that our liberation is bound together, that we are enough, and that we deserve to thrive.

Why A Mother’s Choice?

A Mother’s Choice is a sanctuary of love and life, where birthing people receive culturally-rooted, affirming care. As a Black-led and Black-serving space, their work embodies the very essence of reproductive justice and economic equity.

Right now, they’re being asked to do the impossible, meet increased community needs while navigating deeply personal and systemic challenges, and they shouldn’t have to do it alone.

Our mutual aid campaign aims to:

  • Provide immediate financial assistance and supplies to A Mother’s Choice so they can continue to serve community.
  • Spread awareness and deepen public understanding of mutual aid as a critical practice of economic justice and liberation.

"S2SS investment in AMC over the years created economic stability and opportunities of growth and expansion" - Demetra, founder of A Mother’s Choice

“What a blessing your organization is to me!! Thank you so much for the assistance. I cannot express how big of a blessing it is to receive the help. Thank you so much.”

"Thank you so much for your assistance. This really means a lot to me and my family. I will definitely pay this act of generosity forward!"

What Mutual Aid Means to Us.

Mutual Aid is not new to Black Beloveds. As a communal people facing centuries of discrimination and disparities, Black Beloveds have always created both formal and informal mutual aid networks to care for one another.

Whether it’s caring for each other’s children, cooking meals for those who are grieving or ill, or more famously organizing carpooling for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, mutual aid is how we’ve shown up for one another, time and time again.

The Black Panther Party’s Free Breakfast Program was for many an introduction into Black liberation and an opportunity to understand and envision a world where Black Beloveds can survive and thrive.
The Black Panther Party’s Free Breakfast Program was for many an introduction into Black liberation and an opportunity to understand and envision a world where Black Beloveds can survive and thrive.

From Freedom House paramedics, a team of Black men who were the FIRST paramedics in the United States to the Black Panther Party’s free breakfast and health clinics, Black mutual aid has shaped the world we know today.

We honor that lineage by continuing it.

Mutual aid is not charity, it’s not transactional. Mutual aid is not about one group coming up with a “solution.” Mutual aid centers the very communities receiving care, which is rooted in relationships built on trust.

While mutual aid is not going to fill gaps from the social safety net that governments need to provide, it can sustain us as we fight for a better tomorrow, a tomorrow that we truly deserve.

Mutual aid is a liberatory tool that pushes back on systems that deny us access to basic needs. It is how we survive and how we imagine something better.

We invite you to give, uplift, and advocate with us.
