DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging and informative 2-hour interactive workshop that will focus on two critical aspects of postpartum care – (1) common discomforts and identifying emergencies in postpartum & (2) socioeconomic wraparound care from a community health worker lens. \n✨Workshop Details✨ \nTitle: Care & Advocacy in Postpartum \nDate: Wednesday\, August 28\, 2024 \nTime: 11:00 am – 1:00 pm mst / 1:00 – 3:00 pm est \nLocation: Virtual (zoom details will be shared upon registration) \nWorkshop Description: During our time together\, participants will gain essential knowledge on how to recognize and manage the typical discomforts experienced during the postpartum period; learn to differentiate between normal postpartum recovery and signs of potential emergencies that require immediate attention; discover the vital role of socioeconomic support in postpartum recovery; explore resources and services available to new parents; and understand how holistic\, community-based care can address the diverse needs of families\, fostering a supportive environment for postpartum healing. \nWhat You’ll Learn: \n\nIdentification of common postpartum discomforts and their management.\nRecognizing warning signs of postpartum emergencies and appropriate actions to take.\nAccessing and leveraging community resources for comprehensive postpartum support.\nStrategies for integrating socioeconomic support into postpartum care plans.\n\nFacilitator Bio: Carmen Mojica (she/hers) is a Black Dominican woman born and raised in the Bronx. She is a certified professional midwife\, author\, and human rights activist with a focus on maternal and reproductive justice. The focus of her work through River Body Wellness Education and Consulting is on expanding access to reproductive health education for menstruators and reproductive health providers who identify as Black and people of color\, with special attention to first-generation individuals. Carmen is one of the co-creators of Bronx (Re)Birth and Progress Collective\, a group of Black mothers\, doulas\, and organizers who aim to build alternate solutions outside of the system that protect and honor birthing people in the Bronx and their families. She works in midwifery education as a faculty member and administrator.

We plan to ground the conversation in a few understandings\, but will leave a majority of the forum open to storytelling & discussion.
